The year 2000 Thomas Rusiak released his long awaited debut Magic Villa. And what a debut it was.
It’s an understatement to say the expectations were huge. Even though still a youngster, Thomas had quickly become the biggest producer in Sweden as well as making a name for himself as the hottest new MC around.
On top of being a member of classic hip hop group Sherlock (with Sebroc, Peewee and Speedy) Rusiak hade scored continues hits with Petter, Slick Rick & Raekwon, Titiyo, Ken as a producer.
In 1998 Rusiak locked himself into the Cosmos Studios with partner Sebroc to begin what would become a 2 yearlong roller coaster ride. The chaotic recording process was spiced by friends such as Titiyo, Christian Falk, Saska, Flesh Quartet, Awa and not least Teddybears STHLM.
Brother Klas & Jocke Åhlund lifted Thomas to new heights. In a short period of time they recorded bangers like Hiphopper, Ahead of my time and Rock and Roll Highschool (the later ending up as a title track for the Teddybears classic release of the same year).
When finally released March 29th 2000, Magic Villa got rave reviews and was immediately crowned album of the year. However the hip hop crowd was puzzled by the new rock style. The initial fans of Rusiak expected a hardcore hip hop album and got, well, something else. The album made people both astonished and angry. However, at the in of the day with over 100.000 albums sold in Scandinavia alone and 6 Grammy nominations 2000 was Thomas Rusiak´s year.
